Summary. The process of teaching Ukrainian language is difficult and long process that requires from a teacher creative approach, involving extraordinary materials. Tale as a genre of folklore is a grateful material for language learning in foreign language audience, since, in addition to improve language and speech abilities and skills, it extends the knowledge of foreigners about Ukraine, the mentality of the people, value orientations of the ethnic group.

Summary. The article is dedicated to the issue of teaching tourism vocabulary to Polish students of the Ukranian language studies. The author suggests some theme blocks and methods of teaching vocabulary from the mentioned language area. The results presented in the article come from a survey which was carried out on students of the Jagiellonian University. The questions referred to assimilation of tour-ism vocabulary.

Summary. The article deals with the history of Ukrainian Studies in Hungary. Researches in the field of Ukrainian language and literature in Hungary take back to the first half of the nineteenth century. It is emphasized that the Hungarian slavists’ contribution to the development of Ukrainian Slavistic is significant. Currently researches in the field of Ukrainian languge and literature conducted in three high schools in Hungary.

THE STATUS OF UKRAINIAN (RUSIN) LANGUAGE IN TRANSCARPATHIA IN THE XXth CENTURY - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary. Language policy determines the legal status of languages. The three main levels that are most com-monly distinguished are: the state language, the official language and the minority language. Lan-guage policy has a great role in multilingual countries. Transcarpathia is a multilingual region. The area of Transcarpathia belonged to several countries during the XXth century. Each of these countries had its own language policy. The state language was changed six times in the twentieth century. The state language status was fulfilled by the Hungarian, Czechoslovak, Russian and Ukrainian lan-guages in a short period of time. According to the official standpoint of Ukraine, the Rusyn is the dialect of the Ukrainian language. Considering this point of view this means that the Ukrainian lan-guage was the official language in Transcarpathia through the XXth century and became the state language in 1991. The Ukrainian language was used in education, culture and offices.

Summary. Legnica (German Liegnitz) – a town situated on the Kaczawa River, 69 km west of Wrocław. During the times of communism in Poland it was within the administrative borders of Wrocław voivodeship, and after territorial changes in 1975 it became the capital of Legnica voivodeship. After the end of World War II until the withdrawal of the Soviet army from Poland Legnica was the base of the General Staff of Military Groups of Soviet Army. Following the October Thaw a school was opened in the town with Ukrainian as the teaching language. The Orthodox church that was founded several months after the „Vistula” operation, by which Ukrainian people from the territory of south-eastern Poland were resettled into post-German land. The ethnic structure of the parish due to migration process was diverse. In the early 1970s in the parish there emerged a conflict between two divergent service traditions. Continuing for more than a dozen years conflict was also linguistic in nature. Some of the worshippers, in favour of Galician service tradition, were advocating for the use of the national language in the service. Also, denomination authorities, wor-ried about the disturbance caused by the Greek-catholic church in the town, took their stance in the conflict.

Summary. Multimedia links many manners of presenting of information’s. There is main feature of multimedia not only, that they transmit attractive information’s and diversified form, but they make process of teaching (learning) also attractive. They prompt activity of pupil (disciple) in time of lesson of Ukrainian language also. Employment of presentation program allows preparation and steering sequence of slide text, images, musical cushion, word comment, sequences animated or video. Capability dynamic to introducing of content of static education is particular value of multime-dia presentation.

LINGUAL PORTRAITING OF THE UKRAINIAN POPULATION OF BULAESHTY VILLAGE (REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA): PHONETIC PARALLELS WITH THE PODILLIA DIALECTS - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary.In the article, the question of the typical features of the Podillia dialects in speech of the Ukrainian people from Bulaeshty village (Republic of Moldova) is considered. The object of analysis is pho-netic level of a language. Comparative analysis of the Podillia dialects’ features, singled out by the Ukrainian dialectologists (Stepan Bevzenko, Phedot Zhylko, Pavlo Hrytsenko, Ivan Matviyas) and phonetic features of the Bulaeshty dialect have been carried out. The author confirms that the basis of the Podillia – Bulaeshty language parallels is not present-day interlingua interference, they are caused by historical prerequisites, specifically by migratory movements from Podillia to the Western Ukraine. With the purpose of conformation it, six phonetic features of the Podillia dialects, fixed in old-Ukrainian language monuments of the XIV–XVII centuries A.D. and saved up in the Bulaeshty dialect, have been singled out.

Summary. The article deals with the problem of second pleophony (also called polnoglasie or full vocaliza-tion). The article deals with the presentation of computer terminology to the students of Ukrainian at the University of Wrocław during the courses in practical Ukrainian, Ukrainian descrip-tive grammar as well as during practical translation classes. Computer vocabulary, which more and more frequently becomes a visible part of the general language, should be included as an integral part in the curricula of Ukrainian teaching. Only in this way may these curricula be still updated and thanks to this, the teaching itself becomes more comprehensive and attractive.

VOCALISM OF THE UKRAINIAN DIALECTS OVER THE TERITORY OF RIVER SAN - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary. The article is devoted to the issue of vocalism among the Ukrainian dialects over the territory of river San. Discussed dialects occour in south-eastern Poland and now are classified as waning (peripheral). The accented vowel system distinguished six phonemes and their variants, which occour in phonologically specified positions: after a soft consonant, a hard consonant, sonor-ants, dorsal consonants and affricates (alveoral). The changes that occour in vocalism of studies dialects, both in accented and unstressed position, confirm a afilication of studied dialect to south-eastern Ukrainian dialect.

Summary: The present paper presents the results of an anonymous survey among students of Ukrainian Studies in Lublin in their freshman/sophomore years, who chose the Ukrainian Studies ca. twenty years ago, when this study program was approved by the authorities for the first time for Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) and for Catholic University of Lublin (KUL). The answers of first- and second-year students show that motivation for the choice of this study program varied. The motives were: 1) emotional and patriotic, 2) desire to know something new, 3) the pro-spect of learning the Ukrainian language and culture as a supplement to their previous knowledge thereof, 4) because Ukrainian studies are interesting and promising for the future, because an inter-esting, independent state has emerged, called Ukraine, 5) because it will be easy to find a job as specialists in Ukrainian affairs will be needed due to the necessity for closer relations between the two independent countries – Poland and Ukraine. The overwhelming majority of those surveyed did not know Ukrainian at all; some partly learned about the language and Ukraine at school, while ca. 25% of students admitted that they became acquainted with Ukrainian at home.

Summary. Language – the most important means of communication. Many world famous scientists deal with the guestion of bilingual environment. Transcarpathia – where more than 20 nationalities and ethnic groups live, is that environment where you can explore the influence of one language on another. Investigating the aspects of official language teaching in the Hungarian environment of Transcarpathia, one of the main task for the scientists of Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute named after Ferenc Rákóczi II. They investigate the methods and techniques teachers use for teaching Hun-garians to Ukrainian language, and also the effect of the environment where Hungarians live on the teaching process.

Summary. This article is an attempt at presenting the current educational situation of Ukrainian minority in Poland. Referring to documents regulating the protection of minority rights both interna-tional and internal, the author outlines the ways of realisation of the delineated rights by Ukrainian community. Among a wide range of possibilities connected with the development of educational activities it is the publishing sphere that deserves special attention. Apart from Ukrainian course-books for different levels of teaching there are also specialist journals printed in Poland. One of them is „????? ????”, which constitutes an excellent source of information and is of great methodological help in the process of language teaching and educating young people.

Summary. The text presents geographical diversity of the names of ‘a stepson’ and ‘a daughter-in-law’ in the East Slavonic dialects of the Bialystok region against comprehensive background of materials for the General-Slavonic linguistic atlas. In the area of East Slavonic dialects of the Bi-alystok region there are two names pasierb and pasynek meaning ‘pasierb’. The feminine form pasierbica fixed in different phonetic variants in the East Slavonic dialects of the Bialystok region appears in almost whole area excluding a zone at the border with Belarus. Names of degrees of relationship make it possible to determine earlier common lexical areas and follow various innova-tions resulting from local language relations. They are a rich source for tracing mechanisms of moti-vation of words belonging to the same thematic field what has been only signalised in this text.

HOME-READING AS A DEDUCTIVE TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING UKRAINIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary. The article elucidates home-dreading in the aspect of the foreign languages teaching in general, and Ukrainian as a foreign language, in particular. The primary task of home-reading lies in developing reading and speaking skills. The following types of home-reading are distinguished (with their didactic peculiarities being characterized): individual, combined and class reading. The selection of texts for reading constitutes an important part in the arrangement of home-reading classes. Certain remarks have been expressed as to the criteria of texts selection with the illustration of teaching material available. Due to the gained practical experience, significant aspects and problems in the use of home-reading as a separate technique have been indicated. The necessity of compiling texts corpus is emphasized. Home-reading is represented as an integrated component in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language.

„BE IT ONLY A STRIP OF THE NATIVE FIELD THAT STIRS THE SOUL”. INTENTION DOMINANT OF YEVHEN MALANIUK’S POETRY - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary. Communicative intention is an important text formant and determines the author’s prag-matic intentions in the most relevant syntactic constructions and jenre-text complexes (poetic or prose). Interpreting a text as a communicative-pragmatic unit helps to study its intention basis in connection with presupositional factors of text communication. The article presents an attempt to analyse the intention dominant as a meaning component logically actualized through syntactic units in the text’s lingual continuum. In the framework of Yevhen Malaniuk’s poetry, communicative inten-tions typology, which represents the author’s world multi-vector perception and interpretation, is defined, reasonably optative inention as dominant among other intentions of the addressant (informa-tive, interrogatve, imperative et al.) is established, the syntactic resourse of its realization is outlined.

LINGUO-CULTURAL PECULIARITIES OF ETHNOSYMBOL "NIGHTINGALE" - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary. The article analyze sthepeculiar role of ethic symbols in the Ukrainian language as means of representation of the national outlook, culture, beliefs and traditions. The publication determines problems of the ethnic symbol within the context of coding the linguistic image of the nation. The article considers the linguistic image of a nightingale in folk-lore and ethnographic texts, which indirectly reflect the mentality of the Ukrainian people. The author investigates linguo-cultural peculiarities, semantic content of ethnosymbol ‘nightingale.’ A typical stereotype of nightingale in the Ukrainian linguistic picture of the world has been modeled. The linguistic image of nightingale has been found to form a complex system of interrelated and interwoven features most of which are connected with semantics „a small grey migrant passerine bird whose males beautifully sing, espe-cially in the period of nesting” with mostly positive evaluation of this fragment of Ukrainian linguis-tic picture of the world.

SEMANTICAL FEATURES OF KHOLM’S PLACE NAMES, FIXED IN NOVEL „HUCHVA? BY J. STRUCIUK - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary.Etymology of Kholm’s place names was studied by Polish linguists repeatedly. Ukrainian researchers also attempted such analysis occasionally. Given the fact that this area was part of their homeland until recently, we think that such problem requires more attention. Kholm’s place names are analyzed in this article by investigation of Ukrainian linguists. We point out the semantic groups of oikonym: oikonyms formed from proper names of people, oikonyms motivated to geographic, natural quality, oikonyms derived from the names of the tribes and the names of other place names. Kholm’s oikonyms was taken from historical novel „Huchva" by J. Strucjuk.

FUNCTIONAL-STYLISTIC PECULIARITI OF DOMINANT LINGUISTIC STRUCTURES IN THE COMPOSITIONS OF IVAN BAGRIANYI - pełny artykuł (full article) - plik PDF

Summary. In the article the dominant expressive syntactic structures of Ivan Bagrianyi’s prose are analyzed, their functional specific, features of formal-syntactic and semantic-syntactic organization in the artis-tic context are clear up. It’s determined that the expressive syntactic features subject to author"s aesthetic instructions, actualize the information, express the tense narrative and promote the author’s individualization of the world’s linguistic.
